While John was "at seas," I went to the Cairns mall with Paul and Lorna where we saw this store with a VERY cool name!

A Cairns institution; the Night Markets. They're mainly an odd grouping of knick-knack shops and halthfood/massage kiosks, but they're only open when th sun is down

I took this photo at 6pm, and they weren't open yet

If this sight is any indication of how the night went, you can imagine how much everyone liked each other

Fozzie, the div boat's captain. Fozzie is a Cairns living legend

Warren with Mille, "ze perfect girl!" They're an adorable couple nad unfortunately this blurry photo doesn't show their ridiculous good looks. However, the blur is a bit groovy & psychedlic, no?

If you stay out long enough, you'll always end up dancing. Not only is Sam an excellent dive instructor, he does a great mambo as well.

John and Andy, his underwater diving buddy. In scuba, the diver provides arm & hand signals to each other. When both hands are raised above the head in an "O" shape, it indicates to the lookout person on the boat that you are okay, floating at the surface, and not in need of help. However, with John's shoulder, he can't raise his second arm, so Andy assists. This is the modified "We're Okay" sign.

Once up in Kuranda, we had lunch and stopped at an outdoor market that sold the funniest of things.... Emu Oil, anyone?
-
dsc02872.jpg
Or perhaps a G-string made from kangaroo fur...?
-
dsc02871.jpg
A handpainted portrait of the Magnificent Seven...?

Tarot Card readings are available too.... Insightful.

We were SUPPOSED to take the famed rainforest gondola back out of the rainforest. BUT, there was a major blackout in the village of Kuranda and the gondolas were stuck for hours (with people inside them, hanging above the ranforest!). So, we took the lovely - yet boring, since we had been on it before - train back down.
-
dsc02890.jpg
Well, we actually had to haggle with the train ticket guy for 15 minutes about getting on the train even though we only had gondola tickets... Lorna did all the talking, and we got on!

Can you see it? Brisbane in the FAR background!

dsc02914.jpg
We had a connection in Brisbane. So, while we can't actually say tht we were there, it's technically another city to cross off on our Australia list.
