Entering the Residenz... Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau transformed the city of Salzburg into a masterpiece of Italian Baroque architecture with the wealth made off the region's salt mines. The Residenz served the secular and spiritual leaders for entertainment purposes.

Today as in earlier years, the state rooms are used by the state government on formal occasions, e.g. for official receptions, Festival receptions and similar high-caliber occasions. They also serve as an ideal setting for concerts.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart played in these rooms regularly. His violin concerto, K. 219 in A minor, was first performed in this Conference Room in 1775.

Rocky Riding School in Salzburg dates back to 1693. Three galleries for spectators were hewn from the rock. Originally used for riding tournaments and other equestrian events, theatrical and operatic performances are now presented on a stage nearby this monument mural.
